CÍES ISLANDS
In front of the estuary of Vigo, the Cíes belong to the National Park of the Atlantic Islands of Galicia, created in 2002.
In 2022, the British newspaper “The Guardian” described the beach of Rodas in Cíes as the best beach in the world. But the Cíes are much more than beaches (a total of 9 distributed in the three islands of the archipelago): mountains, cliffs, lagoons, forests and dunes. With high tide, it is spectacular to see the fish coming from the sea and entering the lagoons.
Seagulls, cormorans, gannets, turtledoves and woodpeckers among other birds live together with rabbits, hedgehogs, otters, mice, shrews, buts, reptiles and amphibians. In the sea, many species live there and in addition, sea turtles, dolphins and whales visit the islands regularly. This treasure is threaten by the pollution from industries and harbors and the tankers with petrol that browse not far from the islands.
